MAINE IN 1995

Thirty years ago, I spent a summer week at a photo-instructional camp in Maine. We took black & white shots around the local area, then printed and critiqued them the next day. Here are some of the results.

It was a worthwhile week. We picked up some good tips and experimented a lot – such as with differing views of the same subject matter, like this bridge.

This woman, a determined household figure in period dress,
was especially notable . . .

…as were her two assistants.

The equipment she had to work with was fairly primitive.

Here are some shots I took of a small-town military celebration.

There was lots of local scenery.

I caught this guy sleeping it off on the big lakeside rock.

The best subjects were kids, as these four shots display.

The local lighthouse was not to be ignored . . . .

. . . especially in close-up.

This store window caught my eye . . .

. . . . as did this experiment in snapping a more abstract image.

I spotted this house, convinced another student to lie down on the hill, and close this collection with my homage to Andrew Wyeth’s famed “Christina’s World.”
