I just acquired a new iPhone 18, which contains improved photographic quality such that
it has replaced all my other photo equipment. The day after, the NYC morning dawned
so bright and sunny that I put on a robe and went out on our terrace to try the 18 out.
Here are some of the initial results.

I first selected a scene that included one of those water towers which are such a trademark of Manhattan vistas. This is my original shot, with the water tower at a distance and relatively small.

I then took a shot with the water tower up close and dominating the picture, but without much help from its surroundings.

I completed the triad with this shot of a nearby water tower nestled among some interesting buildings. I really appreciated the camera’s versatility.

In a similar vein, here’s the Carlyle Hotel at various magnifications.

Now let’s switch to the flowers on our terrace.

In the picture on the left, you’ll notice there’s a stray water bottle at the foot of the flower pot, which takes away from the quality of the photo. Using a cleanup feature in the camera, the bottle has now been erased and the shot enhanced.

Look carefully at the middle of the very top of the above picture where you can just make out a tiny black dot. In the bottom photo, the black dot has been enlarged into a helicopter.

I’ll close for now (more to come in future months) with some further usage of the enlargement feature. Here’s a shot of a bee on the flower.

This is the bee enlarged.

Now the bee separates from the other flowers to appear on the stalk.

And finally the bee is enlarged on the stalk. I’m excited by what can be achieved with the new camera and will report on it from time to time, as I learn to make better use of its various features.
