Annette and Jim at the Movies

To my friends:

With this album, my collaboration with Annette Sanders has attained baker’s dozen status – and each of the 13 has been such a pleasure for me to work with this excellent vocalist – often with the strong support of our professional bassist, Dmitri Kolesnik.

This one is a compilation of two dozen memorable songs by fine composers and lyricists that originally appeared in non-musical movies – songs like As Time Goes By from “Casablanca” and Moon River from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” – melodies that won seven Academy Awards for Best Song and were nominated for an additional three.

We recorded fifteen of these this May when Annette came east from California for a week, to which we added nine we had previously recorded. There are ballads, up-tempo numbers, and a few that defy description. Annette sings all of them, I accompany her on piano and join her on a number of vocal duets, while Dmitri is stellar throughout.
